If we look at the current trend, we would always find the baffling battle on figure “perfection” and the endless discovery on organic products to keep our health record with an A.

One of the things that people watch on is the Big C which gets activated not just because of genetic basis but also of certain factors coming from what we take in our bodies. Further to that, as the emergence of medical consciousness among people makes us cautious enough, we shall get back to the basics yet not miss the fun at all!

Almost everyone loves to chill with sweets and other energy hormone-boosting products. Mostly, those are the roots of diabetes, obesity, and other medical conditions which often hinder us from munching our favorites and enjoying lives to the fullest.

Ice cream is a great buddy for celebrations and hang-outs. It has even upheld traditions. It’s too good to get rid off but once it creates an extra pound, we tend see the negative side of it. Instead of ice cream, why don’t you try frozen yogurt?

What is FROZEN YOGURT?

If we are to observe, frozen yogurt (or yoghurt) is a frozen dessert that may be physically quite similar to ice cream but palatability wise, you could somehow detect their difference – most probably with the little sourness of yogurt. The difference between the two is that instead of using milk and cream, frozen yogurt uses yogurt (obviously) which is comprised of live lacto bacilli that aid lactose-intolerant people in their digestion. It is low in fat and low in calories that is why it would surely support your weight regulation.

According to the International Journal of Obesity, a serving or two of yogurt in the daily diet can help you in losing excess fats and it minimizes muscle loss.

Dairy products such as yogurt contain Lactoferrin which has an anti-bacterial, anti-viral, and antioxidant component which helps the immune system function well. It is the reason why we are encouraged to take in dairy products in our daily diet. These foods do not only make your taste buds satisfied but more so, promotes good health.

There are a few establishments in Manila where frozen yogurt is served. Maybe we could name a two or three popular frozen yogurt place. Mostly, those are present in malls where a kiosk in the middle of the hall stands.

A few weeks ago, a friend of mine invited me in a frozen yogurt place at Belagio Square along J.Bocobo St., Malate. Since I don’t frequent that place, I didn’t know that there is a store serving frozen yogurt ‘til she invited me. It’s called White Berry Frozen Yogurt. It is a Korean-owned store that had its opening last September 12, 2008.

The cool thing about this place is not just the glass façade of the establishment but also the Wi-Fi access offered. With its comfy seats and less stressful ambiance compared to malls, it’s great for study and hang-out. There is also a lounge area upstairs where you could spend you relaxation time away from the entrance hall.

According to Mr. Gilbert Kang, owner of White Berry, the flavor of the White Berry frozen yogurt is a combination of Italian, French, and Korean recipe. The places mentioned are where frozen yogurts are mostly patronized.

The menu is simple. Frozen yogurt served either in a regular (110 grams) or large (210 grams) cup. Toppings are optional.

Cereals, almonds, chocolate chips, white chocolate chips, marshmallows, cookies, and fresh fruits (berries, cherries, and peaches) are common toppings and add-ons.

Further to that, you could make your customized “halo-halo” style depending on your preference (e.g. berries, peaches, and chocolate chips) and have frozen yogurt on top.

On the updating of the menu, smoothie will be next on the counter.

So how’s the taste?

Imagine the ever-popular probiotic drink that is rich with live lactobacilli shirota strain… that’s how it tastes only in an ice cream-like texture! It’s nice to the taste buds and it would literally make you smile!

Probably you might get addicted to it but make sure that you would not spoil yourself too much basically because of its antioxidant content (remember the lactoferrin?) that would immediately act on your digestive system..
